What Wi-Barrier Tape actually does — and why the cable stays U/UTP

The Gold Series feature explained in plain words: alien cross-talk, bundles, and why there is no earthing to worry about.

Pull twenty cables through the same tray and they start to talk to each other. That interference between neighbouring cables is called alien cross-talk, and it is the enemy of a clean 10G link.

A barrier, not a shield

Wi-Barrier Tape is a non-metallic layer wrapped around the four pairs of every Gold Series cable. It blocks alien cross-talk from the cables around it. Because it is non-metallic, it is not a shield — so the cable stays U/UTP.

Why U/UTP matters on site

Shielded cable has to be earthed and bonded at both ends, with shielded jacks and panels, or it can make things worse. Wi-Barrier Tape needs none of that. You terminate a Gold cable exactly like any other U/UTP cable, with standard jacks and patch panels, and you get the bundle performance anyway.

Where it earns its keep

Risers and trays in offices, societies with dozens of camera runs in one duct, and any tender that specifies alien cross-talk performance. It is fitted on every Gold Series cable, indoor, outdoor and armoured, and on WIAN patch cords.
