A good cable specification is short, quotes the standard, and asks for proof. A bad one copies a brand’s brochure and gets three identical bids from three traders. Here is a clause set we are happy to be measured against, written so that any genuine CAT6A manufacturer can bid.
The clause
Supply of Category 6A U/UTP (unshielded) 4-pair LAN cable, solid bare electrolytic-grade copper conductors 23 AWG, polyolefin insulation, with cross-member pair separator, conforming to ANSI/TIA-568.2-D and ISO/IEC 11801 2nd Edition for Category 6A / Class EA to 500 MHz. Characteristic impedance 100 ± 15 Ω; conductor DC resistance not exceeding 95 Ω/km; delay skew not exceeding 45 ns per 100 m; NVP declared on the datasheet. Jacket: LSZH (IEC 60754 / IEC 61034) for indoor enclosed areas, or FR-PVC for general indoor, or UV-stabilised LDPE with anti-rodent compound for outdoor, as scheduled. Each metre sequentially printed with manufacturer, category, part code and length. Supplied in 305 m boxes or reels.
For bundled or riser runs, add
Cable shall incorporate a non-metallic alien cross-talk barrier so that the cable remains U/UTP and requires no earthing or bonding, and shall meet the alien cross-talk (AXT) requirements of ANSI/TIA-568.2-D for Category 6A when tested as a channel.
Documents to ask for
Manufacturer’s technical datasheet for the exact part code. Third-party or VNA channel test report for CAT6A. ISO 9001 certificate of the manufacturer. Manufacturer authorisation letter naming the bidder. For government buyers: evidence of listing on GeM as an OEM.
