Short, direct answers to the questions installers ask most.
What is the difference between CAT6 and CAT6A?
CAT6 is rated for 1G; CAT6A for 10G — ten times faster — with thicker 23 AWG conductors and tighter twisting. Both use RJ-45 connectors; for full 10G use CAT6A-rated jacks.
What is CCAM cable?
Copper-clad aluminium-alloy — a copper skin over an aluminium-alloy core. Lighter and lower-priced than pure copper; fine for budget CCTV, small offices and short runs, but pure copper carries PoE further and is what tenders specify.
What is U/UTP?
Unshielded twisted pair with no overall screen. No earthing or bonding is needed and standard jacks work. WIAN Gold Series stays U/UTP even with Wi-Barrier Tape because the tape is non-metallic.
What is alien cross-talk?
Interference that leaks between neighbouring cables in a bundle, tray or riser. It gets worse at 10G. Wi-Barrier Tape on WIAN Gold Series blocks it without a metallic shield.
LSZH, FR-PVC or LDPE — which jacket do I need?
LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) for offices and enclosed spaces where people gather; FR-PVC (flame retardant) for standard indoor runs; LDPE (UV-stable, black) for outdoors. Lift shafts use FRLS rubberised PVC.
How far can PoE run on LAN cable?
The standard limit is 100 m per channel. On WIAN CAT6A pure copper, IP cameras on PoE run up to about 200 m with long-reach / ePoE switches and recorders; on CAT6, and with standard equipment, keep to 100 m.
Can I run HDMI over LAN cable?
Yes, with an HDMI extender — 60 to 120 m over CAT6A, and USB extenders up to 75 m.
What does "K" in a WIAN part code mean?
Black LDPE outdoor jacket. Outdoor is always a K code (W and G codes are indoor).
Box or reel?
Both hold 305 m. The tangle-free box suits short pulls straight off the counter; the wooden reel suits long continuous site pulls.
